Risk 3: The worship of Standardization

The governorship of the information system is based on a whole of standards, reference frames, libraries, , , ,… Used well, replaced in the context, these tools contribute to build an effective system of governorship.

On the other hand, it will be of the greattest importance to take guard with than the installation of these standards does not become the supreme objective of the project. When the finality slips gently since “Aligning strategy and technology” towards “Adhering to the last established standard”, the project is lost.
The belief in a magic capacity of the tools which, by their only use, would solve all the problems, is largely widespread of the two quoted ones of the Atlantic. In addition, temptation to rest on an established reference frame is all the more strong as the implementation of the governorship of the information systems raise thorn-bush problems. Answers to the questions of the decision-making, of the definition of the responsibilities where still of the identification of the processes significant supports of the strategic direction of the firm are not within a standardized “plan”. Only a basic work in total co-operation realized in the middle same of the firm is likely to bear the awaited fruits.
